fishing: is the choice of the coil, pole and line important? (Low, cat, wing)?

Here in northern Mississippi, fishing is all on bass, catfish, crappie, and wing … Sometimes I wonder if the type of reel, lenth pole and line test, type, and size and type lure that really matters. I think I can buy good things, but sometimes I wonder if my system is shit because of mismatched componets. For example, a 6-foot pistol grip handle pole (action medium) with 17 pound test, Baitcast Reel is one I just put togeter. Is there a guide for the organization of systems together? depending on what type of fish after? Usually the bass fishing lures. thanks .. any comments?

Basically the smaller the fish, the lighter the front. For crappie and brim I would use a 5 1 / 2 foot bar ultra lightweight, ultra-reel to light, and 4 or 6 lbs mono line. You will have plenty of fun with this configuration. Unless you really catch some big fish would go to 10 or 12 pounds for the bass line and cats. The lighter line will give you more cast time as it is not so rigid. Your drag set properly compensate the line more clearly. Look at your local Wal-Mart and buy one of the groups that have matched for sale. Manufacturers have done their homework in putting these packages together.
